Ward 10 Councillor Candidate

Eugene Farago for Ward 10

A local campaign focused on listening, understanding our community and bringing Ward 10's voice into City Hall.

I'm Eugene Farago. I'm a proud father of three and husband to a wonderful wife. I own an IT consulting business and serve as president of the Stoney Creek Sabres Girls Hockey Association.

Why I'm Running

Families, Neighbours, and Neighbourhoods

My involvement in Ward 10 didn't start with this campaign. I am a fourth-generation resident, and I've seen our community come together time and time again.

The issues may change, but I keep coming back to the same thing: strong communities start with strong families, neighbours who look out for one another, and neighbourhoods where people can connect and belong.

I'm running because I believe City Hall has a role in making that possible. I want to listen, do the work and help keep Ward 10 a great place to grow up, raise a family, and grow old.

Where I started

Stoney Creek is home

I attended St. Clare of Assisi and Cardinal Newman High School and spent much of my youth on my grandparents' farm at the end of McNeilly Road and the South Service Road.

As a kid, I was involved in many local sports. They showed me how much clubs, teams and community organizations can shape a young person's life by giving them a place to join in, contribute and belong.

Where I am now

This is where we wanted to raise our family

After high school, I attended the University of Waterloo to study computer science and eventually started my own IT consulting business. Along the way, I met my wife, and we started our family.

When it came time to decide where we wanted to raise our children, we chose Stoney Creek and the street I grew up on. We live next door to my parents, down the street from my brother, and around the corner from one of my sisters. Today, several generations of our family call Ward 10 home.

How I got involved

It started with my kids

I coached my son and daughters in hockey, soccer, and flag football. I joined the boards of Hamilton's Flag 5 on 5 and the Stoney Creek Sabres Girls Hockey Association. I have served as president of the Stoney Creek Sabres since 2022. Through these experiences, I've seen families give their time at food drives, community cleanups, parades and the Winona Peach Festival.

Working with volunteers has taught me that you can't simply tell people what to do. You have to listen, earn their trust and work together towards common goals.

Priorities

01

Accountability at City Hall

Our families have to live within a budget and make choices about how we spend our money. We should expect the same from City Hall. Before asking taxpayers for more, we need to make sure we're spending the money we already have responsibly.

02

Safe Communities

Our neighbours are part of what makes our community safe. We say hi when we pass each other on the street and look out for each other's kids at the park. Safer roads, better sidewalks, and more parks and recreation help us keep it that way.

03

Responsible Growth

Our neighbourhoods are why families choose Ward 10 and why so many of us choose to stay. As new homes are built, we need to make sure we're building the roads, parks, and community spaces that go with them. That means residents, the City, and developers working together on how our neighbourhoods grow.

04

Sports & Recreation Facilities

Responsible growth means building more than new homes. Hamilton is already planning major new recreation facilities for Winona and Fruitland-Winona, including a new aquatic and community centre and a future recreation complex.

I don't want us to just build the minimum. I want us to learn from the best facilities other communities have built and make sure we get the design right. That means an aquatic centre, arenas, fields, and community spaces that support different ages, activities, and interests throughout the year.
